Leadership in internationalization strategies

This paper examines leadership in internationalization strategies for an asymmetric cost duopoly where firms choose between exports and foreign direct investment (FDI) a sequential setting. The incentive to lead engage FDI is stronger the more efficient firm. With choices firm playing advance, it less likely that pick identical equilibrium, as compared with simultaneous choices; this so greater asymmetry. It also happens large enough oligopoly profitability when inefficient plays advance. Follow-the-leader behaviour arises low values of setup cost. Although entry by both best consumers, total welfare can be higher opposite strategies. Were given opportunity or wait enter later, would emerge leader exports/FDI depending on well-known proximity-concentration trade-off. Interestingly, might prefer strategic reasons.
